Lore & Background

The story of Aether Revolt follows the Gatewatch traveling to Chandra Nalaar's home world, the titular plane of Kaladesh. There, Chandra finds her mother (presumed dead) and almost kills Tezzeret. Tezzeret later kidnaps Rashmi, winner of the famous Inventor's Fair, and begins a dastardly plot to control the ruling Consulate. With the Consulate imprisoning inventors and confiscating their devices following the Fair, tensions between the populace and the government reach a boiling point, as depicted in Aether Revolt. The set continues the block's focus on artifacts, their creators, and the magical aether which powers them.

In Their Own Story

The narrative of Aether Revolt centers on the escalating conflict between the Consulate and the people of Kaladesh. After the Inventor's Fair, the Consulate begins imprisoning inventors and confiscating their devices, leading to widespread unrest. Tezzeret, having kidnapped the fair's winner Rashmi, pursues his own agenda to control the Consulate. The Gatewatch, particularly Chandra Nalaar, becomes involved as she confronts her past and her mother's presumed death. The story culminates in a revolt against the Consulate's oppressive rule, with the populace fighting for their freedom and the right to create.
